ETIAS

ETIAS stands for
European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). This is a mechanism which aims to strengthen the security of European borders, as it will facilitate the identification of possible threats and risks associated with people wishing to travel to any of the countries in the Schengen Zone, being this travel authorization is aimed at citizens of countries that can access the EU area without a visa.

The ETIAS authorization will work for short duration trips of up to 90 days. This was announced by the European Commission in November 2016, and will come into operation from the second half of 2022, therefore, Colombians who until now had been able to move around the Schengen zone, will have to go through this procedure to enter this zone, i.e. Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Sweden and Switzerland.
