It is quite common to request judicial records for different procedures, especially those of international character, for this reason, we will explain how to acquire them in the country of Ecuador, both for Ecuadorian nationals and for foreigners who lived there.

Request Judicial Record Certificate for Ecuadorian Nationals

To carry out this process, it is necessary to access the website of the Ministry of Government. Once logged in, follow these instructions:

• Select “MENU” option
• Select “Programs / Services”.
• Option “Certificate of Criminal Record”.
• The Certificate Terms and Conditions of Use screen is displayed, then you must “Accept” what is indicated on this screen to continue with the process.
• Enter the ID number without dashes in “Document Number”.
• Press the “Next” button.
• Enter the “Reason for Inquiry”.
• Press the “Next” button to verify the current situation.
• Click on the “View Certificate” button, the file will be automatically downloaded for checking, printing or saving. To do this you must have installed software for viewing .pdf files.

Judicial Record for Nationalized Ecuadorians

• Possess citizenship or identity card.
• Put “YES” to the question “Is the Certificate for an Ecuadorian citizen?”
• Enter the ID number without hyphen in the “Document Number” box.
• Press the “Next” button.
• The applicant’s name and surname will be displayed under the applicant’s ID card.
• If there is an inconsistency or error in your first or last names, you should go to a Civil Registry office and request a correction of your data.
• Enter the Reason for Consultation, which must contain at least 10 characters.
• Click on the “Next” button to review the status of your record. If you have a criminal record, to update it, you must go to the offices of the National Directorate of the Judicial Police.
• Click on the “View Certificate” button to view, print or save it.

Requesting Judicial Records for Foreign Citizens

• Possess a valid passport.
• To obtain the certificate, your passport number must be registered in the Ecuadorian National Police Computer System, otherwise the message: “PERSON NOT FOUND” will be displayed.
• Registration is an external service to the Ministry of Government provided by the National Police, for which you should go to the facilities of the Laboratory of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Quito and Guayaquil: Quito and Guayaquil.
• Once you are registered, you must select “NO” to the question “Is the Certificate for an Ecuadorian citizen?”
• Select the “Passport” option
• Enter your passport number in the “Document Number” box.
• Press the “Next” button
• It will be displayed under the applicant’s passport, first and last names. If there is an inconsistency or error in your names or surnames, you should go to the facilities of the Laboratory of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Quito and Guayaquil and request a correction of your data.
• Enter the Reason for Consultation, which must contain at least 10 characters.
• Press the “Next” button to check the status of your background. If you have a criminal record to update it, you must go to the offices of the National Directorate of the Judicial Police.
• Click on the “View Certificate” button to review, print or save it.

This procedure can be accessed by Ecuadorian nationals with their identity card number and foreign citizens with their passport number, free of charge via internet and is valid for 3 months.
