Visa V for Intra-Company Transfers

Foreign nationals seeking to enter Colombia to fill a position at a local branch of an international company through an intra-company transfer may apply for a Visitor Visa (Visa V). This visa is valid for up to 2 years and grants a work permit limited to the specific role for which it is issued. Additionally, it allows the holder to conduct business activities, market research, investment planning, and company formation procedures.

General Requirements for the Visa V (Intra-Company Transfer)

Requirements vary depending on whether the application is submitted individually or with institutional support:

1. Personal Application or Supported by a Natural Person

A written statement from the applicant and/or the supporting individual must include:

  • Full identification of the applicant and/or the supporting individual.
  • Brief explanation of the relationship between the foreigner and the supporting individual (if applicable).
  • Detailed description of the activities the foreigner intends to carry out in Colombia.
  • Declaration of financial responsibility for the foreigner’s travel and stay expenses.
  • Proof of financial liquidity (bank statements from the last 6 months).

2. Application with Institutional Support

A written statement signed by the legal representative of the supporting company must include:

  • Full identification and contact details of the company.
  • Complete identification of the foreign applicant.
  • Detailed explanation of the activities the foreigner will perform in Colombia.
  • Explanation of the relationship with the foreigner and their special qualifications/expertise (if applicable).
  • Declaration of financial responsibility for the foreigner’s travel and stay expenses.
  • Proof of financial liquidity (bank statements from the last 6 months), unless the company is a public entity.
  • Certificate of Existence and Legal Representation (or equivalent document) if the supporting company is a foreign private entity.

Important Notes:

  • Documents (except ID and travel documents) must be issued no more than 3 months before application.
  • Foreign-issued documents must be legalized or apostilled.
  • Documents in a language other than Spanish require an official, legalized/apostilled translation.
  • The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs may request criminal background information.

Specific Requirements for the Visa V (Intra-Company Transfer)

  • Submit an employment contract or proof of the work relationship with the hiring company.

Visa V (Intra-Company Transfer) Costs

Two payments are required:

1. Application Processing Fee

  • €40 if applying from Europe or Cuba.
  • €52 if applying from Colombia or elsewhere in the world.
  • €23 for Ecuadorian nationals applying from Europe or Cuba.
  • $30 USD for Ecuadorian nationals applying from Colombia or elsewhere.
  • Free for Spanish nationals.

2. Visa Issuance Fee (Upon Approval)

  • €188 if applying from Europe or Cuba.
  • $245 if applying from Colombia or elsewhere in the world.
  • Free for:
    • Peruvian nationals settling in the Amazon and Putumayo river basins.
    • Ecuadorian, Spanish, Japanese, or Korean nationals.
