FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT COLOMBIAN VISAS

Do I only need to marry a Colombian national to obtain Colombian nationality?

Often many of our clients ask this question because it is believed that the only or perhaps the most important requirement to obtain Colombian nationality is to perform a marriage or legalize a de facto marital union between the person who wishes to regulate their immigration status and a Colombian national, but this is not so, marrying a Colombian national is NOT the only requirement to obtain Colombian nationality.

One of the visa options that a foreign person who is the spouse or permanent partner of a Colombian national can acquire is the M type visa which has a duration of 3 years, after this time if certain requirements are met, one can opt to obtain a resident visa or R type, this would allow to extend the stay in the Colombian territory for a period of 5 years, after which then one could opt to carry out the process of Colombian nationality by adoption.

We solve the most complex immigration problems for businesses, investors, individuals and families.
