The marriage visa in Colombia, or spouse visa, falls under the category of migrant visas. This is for foreigners who have a marital relationship with a Colombian citizen and aspire to effectively live with their Colombian spouse in the country. This visa is valid for up to 3 years and allows accumulating time for the Resident visa when the time of stay as a visa holder is 3 years. Additionally, it allows the holder to apply for a visa for beneficiaries and obtain an open work permit, which allows the holder to perform any lawful activity in the national territory, as long as it complies with the labor regulations of the Colombian state, the specific regulations for the exercise of each profession and trade and with the obligations regarding reporting and registration established in Decree 1067 of 2015, or regulation that replaces it.

The specific requirements for a marriage visa in Colombia are as follows:

  1. Authenticated copy of the Colombian civil registry of marriage, issued within 3 months of the request. application of the visa.
