How to apply for INVIMA sanitary registration

Now, in this opportunity, we want to tell you how is the procedure to apply for your registration before the National Institute of Food and Drug Surveillance (Instituto Nacional de Vigilancia de Medicamentos y Alimentos).

Step 1

You must have a commercial registration either as a natural person or legal entity, make sure it is not older than 30 days.

You must register your factory in INVIMA’s website, for this, you can do this by

. If your company is already registered you can skip this step.

Step 3

You must classify your product according to the risk category to which it belongs, as established in Annex 1 of the
Resolution 719 of 2015
. This is important as it will tell you which permit you should apply for and how long the permit will last. There are three categories of risk:

  1. High: For this category, a Sanitary Registration must be processed with a validity of 5 years.
  2. Medium: For this category a Sanitary Permit with a validity of 7 years must be obtained.
  3. Low: For this category, a Sanitary Notification with a validity of 10 years must be processed.

Step 4

Keep in mind, and as mentioned in Article 42 of the
Resolution 2674 of 2013
that you can cover food under the same Registration, Permit or Sanitary Notification. These cases are:

  • In the case of a food produced by several manufacturers, but under the same trademark.
  • In the case of the same food, with different brands, only if the manufacturer and the holder correspond to the same natural or legal person.
  • Foods with the same basic composition and differing only in the secondary elements.
  • The same product, presented in different commercial presentations.
  • Foods of plant origin with the same specific name in different varieties.

Step 5

You must verify that you are eligible to apply for one of these permits. The requirements for a Sanitary Registration or Permit are set forth in Article 38 of Resolution 2674 of 2013.

Step 6

Fill out the basic information form and the application form for Registration, Permit or Sanitary Notification, as the case may be. These formats can be downloaded

Step 8

Verify the fee to be paid according to the required procedure and make the respective payment at the corresponding offices. The rates can be consulted on the following website

Step 9

Finally, you must submit all the documentation in a white foliated folder and a plastic file hook, to the INVIMA’s Citizen Service Office:

  1. Unique food format according to the case you are requesting.
  2. Commercial registration no longer than 30 days.
  3. Original consignment.
  4. Copy of the legal representative’s citizenship card.
  5. Application quota.
