The courtesy visa in Colombia belongs to the visitor visa type, which means that it is a short stay visa. It has 7 categories which are: Diplomatic courtesy, visitors, ICETEX program, International commitments, Film Law, complementary measure to refuge and for unforeseen cases.
Courtesy Visiting Diplomats:
Applies to the holder of a diplomatic or official passport of a State recognized by Colombia who enters the country temporarily to carry out activities other than diplomatic activities and that do not imply economic remuneration in the country; or to the spouse or permanent partner of an active official of the Diplomatic and Consular Career of Colombia in application of the principle of diplomatic reciprocity. This visa is valid for up to 2 years and allows its principal holder to apply for a beneficiary visa.
ICETEX Program:
Intended for those who participate in academic programs or events of the Colombian Institute of Educational Credit and Technical Studies Abroad “Mariano Ospina Pérez” ICETEX. This visa may be valid for up to 2 years and the authorized stay in the country will be equal to the validity of the visa. It does not allow applications as beneficiary.
International commitments:
Applies to cases contemplated in the law, or in compliance with international cooperation agreements or treaties in force, which contemplate the issuance of this type of visa. It is valid for up to 2 years and the authorized stay in the country will be equal to the validity of the visa. It does not allow applications as beneficiaries.
Law Law:
This courtesy visa in colombia applies to foreign artistic, technical and production personnel entering the country for the purpose of perform or to participate in audiovisual production projects or filming of foreign cinematographic works under the protection of the Law film. It can have a validity of up to 2 years and the authorized time of stay in the country will be equal to the validity of the visa. It does not allow applications as beneficiaries.
Complementary measure to the shelter:
Intended for foreigners for whom the Advisory Commission for the Determination of Refugee Status (CONARE) requests a complementary measure to refugee status. It could be valid for up to 1 year, can only be requested within the national territory and allows its issuance only once.
Cases not foreseen:
For unforeseen cases, provided that the presence of the foreigner is of particular importance for the the State Colombian citizen for political, social, economic, scientific, academic, cultural, sporting or artistic reasons, the Visa and Immigration Authority may issue a courtesy V visa, duly recording the basis and special reasons for the decision in the electronic registry. It can have a validity of up to 2 years and the authorized stay will be equal to the validity of the visa. It does not allow applications as beneficiary and in no case, the Visa and Immigration Authority will be able to grant a Courtesy V visa.
